Congress Asks Fire Service for Help

Dear IAFC Member:

IAFC is receiving a large number of inquiries from our members reporting  that elected officials, particularly members of Congress, are requesting  meetings with fire chiefs to discuss the needs of the fire and emergency  services in the wake of the 9-11 tragedy. While many members of Congress  are concerned and eager to help, it is important that the fire service  remain unified on the issues.   IAFC has developed, in concert with the IAFF, NVFC and other fire service  organizations, a list of goals, many of which are long-standing, such as  increased funding for the FIRE Act. The full list is available on the  IAFC website at www.iafc.org   We recommend that those who are comfortable speaking from this list do so.  We also encourage you to take the opportunity to discuss local issues with  your representatives.   In order to ensure a well-coordinated effort, IAFC recommends you contact  government relations staff when approached by your representatives in  Washington.   Your government relations staff is available at (703) 273-0911 to answer  any questions.
