IAFC Board of Directors Teleconference Call

1710 Update

* Chief Brown attended the Great Lakes Division Forum

* Positive approach to understanding the IAFC's position

* Chief Grorud noted that Chief Brown's comments were extremely helpful

* Chief Brown will address the Ohio Fire Chiefs at their workshop/legislative day on March 6th

* The task force will meet on February 22-23 at ICHIEFS headquarters to develop the strategy for the PowerPoint and presentation materials

* Chief Brown will also attend the FDIC conference to speak on 1710

* Brian is working on a preparing a cheat sheet to help explain the process for amendments. This will be available to the Board prior to the May Board meeting in Anaheim.

* Sheila Jarboe will register those Board members who are attending the NFPA conference.

* Brian will prepare an NFPA rules report so Chief Brown can have it available for his meeting with the IAFF on March 22nd

* Chief Brown will also speak at before WFCA membership during their Forum in Anaheim

* Chief Brown is expected to address the Oregon Fire Chiefs in early/mid April

* Brian Johnson will send updated information on how the members of the technical committee voted

* The next several issues of On Scene will have various articles that highlights the standard - encouraged the Board to look for these articles

* Chief Brown is also addressing how ISO relates to 1710 when he meets with various groups

* The bullets that Chief Brown used for the Great Lakes Division will be emailed to all Board members so they have the same information that Chief Brown is using to address questions/concerns

FIRE Act Update:

* Staff is developing a letter that will be sent to the Divisions/Sections asking them to submit names of individuals who can serve on the grant review panel. Certain guidelines may apply.

* Once the money has been provided to the departments, they have 12 months to spend the funds

Strategic Plan

* Received three changes that have been incorporated into the document

* A final draft will be sent to the Board prior to the March 8th telecon

* Copies will then be made for distribution after the Board has moved to accept the document

* Chief Bruegman asked that an email version of the document be sent to the Board by end of next week

Other Discussion

* Garry Briese is meeting with Denver representatives today

* Chief Bruegman inquired about the status of the USFA Administrator's position - no update was available

* Chief West will represent the ICHIEFS at Fred Allinson's (NVFC) retirement

* Chief Grorud expressed his appreciation to Chief Brown for addressing the division's Forum

* The Board was reminded to send Sheila their NFPA membership #'s if they have not already done so
