NFPA 1710 Update
* NFPA will issue the standard with requirements - inclusion of definition
of "equivalency"
* Standard follows the accreditation process
* Brian Johnson will confirm with the NFPA that the equivalency wording is
correct
* Standards Council will issue both 1710 & 1720 on a 3 year revision
cycle
* NFPA is expanding the make up of the Technical Committee to include more
city managers and elected officials
* Anyone who wants to appeal the process has until August 26 to do so
* If any appeals are made, the chairman of the NFPA Board will appoint a
subcommittee of the Board of Directors who will review the
appeals and then give their recommendation to the full
Board for possible action
* No public hearing is necessary
* Decision will be based on written submissions.
* Have not heard if the NFPA have received any appeals notices
* Chief Brown noted that yesterday's teleconference call on 1710 with the
leadership went well
* Today's teleconference call will be with the state fire chiefs
* Chief Brown noted that he is hearing it is now time to move forward
* A copy of Chief Brown's testimony was sent to the Board for their review
* Executive Director will talk with the IAFF to see what, if any, concerns
they have about the implementation guide before it is released
* Brian Johnson will send the latest version of the implementation guide
to the Board next Monday via email
* Implementation guide has not been shared with ICMA
* It was suggested that we contact the ICMA to let them know we are
preparing the implementation guide
* Executive Director noted that ICMA is aware of the development of the
document but has not expressed any concern
* Executive Director will cotnact the ICMA to open dialogue with them
* Brian Johnson will contact the NFPA to inquire when the final written
standard will be available for distribution
Election Results
* 4,716 votes were cast
* 54 votes were invalidated due to non-payment of dues
* Chief Chiaramonte, Chairman of the Elections Committee was on site to
oversee the process of counting the votes
* Chief Taliaferro received 2,200 votes for Treasurer - Chief Siarnicki
received 1,810 votes
* Chief Mitchell received 2,458 votes for 2nd Vice President - Chief Cade
received 1,594 votes
* Candidates were notified by telephone prior to the results being
announced
Leadership Seminar
* The Executive Committee recommended that this falls' Leadership
Conference be changed to January 2002 because of some conflicts with other
conferences
* Everyone would travel to Fairfax County (VA) on Thursday, January 24
* The seminar would be held on January 25-26
* Board of Directors meeting would be on Sunday, January 27 and Monday,
January 28
* As soon as hotel and meeting arrangements are confirmed, notice will be
sent to the participants
FRI Update
* Attendance is up from last year
* Partner's Program registration has increased about 250 attendees
Roundtable Discussion
* Chief Fincher will be attending the CTIF meeting in Finland - he departs
tomorrow
* Chief Garcia is looking forward to the budget development meeting on
Wednesday, August 1st here at ICHIEFS headquarters
* Chief West noted that the WFCA headquarters operations will move soon to
Salem, Oregon and will be managed by a consulting firm
* An RFP will be sent to interested organizations for overseeing the
operations of the association
* Executive Director reported that grants are being issued this week to
fire departments - not sure how many are being issued and to whom
* Executive Director reported that there is still no word from FEMA yet on
the final candidate for USFA Administrator
* Chief Coleman and Chief Paulison are being considered as potential
candidates
* Chief Pottberg expressed his thanks to Chief Buckman and Christine Booth
for attending the Missouri Valley Division conference in Casper, Wyoming
* Division passed a resolution supporting the IAFC's decision on NFPA 1710
- a copy of the resolution will be sent to the Board
* Chief Mark Young (Casper, WY) and Chief Clint Peterson (Ames, IA) join
the division's Board of Directors
* Chief Pottberg expressed his appreciation, on behalf of the division,
for
the support from the IAFC
* Chief McElfish reported 280 attendees were at the Southeastern Division
Conference
* Chief Rich Burch (Roanoke, VA) is President and Chief Bill Dryburgh is
1st Vice President
* Chief Brown expressed his congregations to Chief McElfish as
International Director for the Southeastern Division
* Chief Brock reported that he attended the Fire & Emergency Exploring
Conference held at the NFA
* Expressed his appreciation to Executive Director for an outstanding
conference
* EMS Section Board is planning to hold a breakfast at FRI and will invite
the Board of Directors
* Reports for the August Board meeting are due to Sheila by Monday, August
6 close of business
